Minnesota’s new Paid Family and Medical Leave program launches in January 2026, and employers across the state are working hard to prepare. I sat down with Robin Loftis, HR Director at Clow Stamping Company, to talk about how a major central Minnesota manufacturer is navigating the shift — from choosing a private plan to handling compliance, communication, staffing, and costs.

In mid-October, the Grow Minnesota! team hosted a focus group with manufacturers of varying sizes and scope, ranging from small, single-facility operations in Minnesota to large multinational companies. The member companies participated to discuss current opportunities and challenges facing the manufacturing sector.  Several key themes emerged throughout the conversation.

Our diverse industries, global companies and highly skilled workforce have long positioned us among the strongest states for quality of life and economic performance. But here’s the reality: we cannot rely on the successes of 50 years ago to carry us into the future.
