A vibrant local and globally competitive economy depends on digital commerce and requires robust, modern, secure and associable communications, data and information infrastructure, systems and networks. Minnesota employers, employees – and schools – are perhaps more reliant on these systems during the COVID-19 pandemic than ever before. Strategic investments that encourage economic growth and recovery also reduce regulatory burdens and roadblocks to innovation. Efforts to modernize the infrastructure and deployment of telecommunications should be realistic, cost-effective and technologically-neutral metrics.

The Chamber’s priorities for the 2021 session include:

Support a careful, consistent, and comprehensive federal approach to Internet governance.
Expand and improve Internet access across the state where the market does not support private sector investment.
Recognize that Minnesotans already have internet privacy protections.
Support a comprehensive federal approach to the protection of consumer data.
