Tell us why you love your company!
I get to share the story of an industry that brought my family to the Iron Range four generations ago! Iron mining is a huge part of Minnesota's history, yet, it's unknown to so many people. I have the opportunity to connect with folks all over the state to talk about it, and I love the conversations and changes that come from that.

What’s something super interesting about yourself?
I started a non-profit called "ReGen" over a decade ago and it's still going strong! The goal was to make sure young people on the Iron Range had a voice in the decision-making process and a seat at the table. I had to step down after a few years, but we had an awesome board of directors who kept things going. After a long hiatus, I am back on the board and so excited to see where we can take this organization!

Who or what are you inspired by?
My parents. My dad started working at a mine right out of high school to help support his family. He retired after 40 years as a union laborer. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. My mom is the glue that holds our family together. Her superpower is that she appears to know EVERYTHING, and if she doesn't she will figure it out. I'm so grateful for them!

What is one piece of leadership advice you’d be willing to share that you use?
Be kind. It's simple, yet effective.

If you had to pick a karaoke song to sing, what would it be and why?
Spice Girls! Name a song and I'll sing it!

What is your favorite part of your Leadership Minnesota experience so far OR what are you most excited for?
Two things: I've been introduced to businesses all across the state that I knew little to nothing about; and I have met some of the most incredible, thoughtful, creative, and fun people thanks to this program!

What is one thing you’ve learned from this program so far?
We might be in different parts of the state but so many industries are facing similar problems. We need to look outside of the areas we live in and the work we do. It has certainly opened my eyes.

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?
It's hard to choose just one! If I had to, I would say the people!

Any suggestions for a place you’ve been that we Minnesotans can travel to during spring break this year?
Shameless plug - come to the Iron Range! No matter the season, we have something for everyone to enjoy! My hometown of Chisholm has a world-class mountain bike park and hiking trail that sits along a former mine pit. It is quite the experience!

Tell us why you love your company!
I have been with WSB for nearly 20 years, and I am proud to be part of a company that embraces challenges and opportunities. The curiosity-driven environment created at WSB allows staff to think of and pursue innovative solutions. Staff have the support of the firm to form unique ideas in a space where they can own their work and strive toward the next level. It is for these reasons that WSB continues to be a factor in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry, and I am grateful that we have the room to take on challenging tasks and exceed expectations.

What’s something super interesting about yourself?
I did not travel much growing up; therefore, I made it a goal in my adult life to travel often with my family. A key item on my bucket list was to visit all 50 states with my kids before my son graduated from high school. Despite our last venture, a booked trip to Alaska, being disrupted by COVID-19— I can proudly say we have successfully visited 49 states.

Who or what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by those who are passionate. I have found when people enjoy what they do and are passionate about their work, the outcome is nothing short of extraordinary. They are dependable and driven to deliver high-quality products, and this passion fuels not only themselves but also those around them. Their infectious, positive, can-do energy revives me and pushes me to continue to do my best. An additional driving force that passion stems from is finding the “why.” Understanding the purpose of your work ignites the spark for passion and only helps it grow. Seeing this passion in others inspires me.

What is one piece of leadership advice you’d be willing to share that you use?
My best leadership advice is to give to those around you. When I was a young professional, I desired to learn as much as I could, and I looked for every opportunity to gain knowledge from my peers and mentors. I really appreciated those that took the time to contributed to my professional development by including me in their conversations and sharing their knowledge. Having spent many years in the industry and gaining knowledge, I want to share all the information I can to help others develop their skills and expertise. A leader’s wisdom, shared experiences, and support to face challenges will accelerate a young professional’s learning and strengthen an organization.

If you had to pick a karaoke song to sing, what would it be and why?
If I had to pick a karaoke song, it would be “Old Time Rock and Roll” by Bob Seger. It’s a classic 80’s song which everyone can sing.

What is your favorite part of your Leadership Minnesota experience so far OR what are you most excited for?
My favorite part of my Leadership Minnesota experience has been forming relationships with those in other industries and seeing how our work relates to and impacts other industries. It has been rewarding to have conversations with my colleagues about how our industries and organizations function in Minnesota and discuss how the economy affects us all. We are impacted by similar things and share similar concerns, and it is nice to have a group of business-minded people that can discuss these topics. It is incredibly exciting to join a group of people that want to take advantage of our new knowledge to make a difference in our industries and business in Minnesota and the U.S.

What is one thing you’ve learned from this program so far?
One thing I have learned from this program is seeing how reliant we are of each other. Though our industries and divisions can be drastically different, we depend on each other to carry out our firms’ individual tasks to deliver high-quality final products. When one industry is not functioning properly it causes a rippling effect to other industries and alters how work is done. It is fascinating to see these interrelationships we share and the impact we have on one another.

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?
My favorite thing about Minnesota is the great work ethic people carry with them. I have worked in other states, regions and even countries and I truly believe the work ethic of those in the Midwest is unmatched. People are genuine, passionate, collaborative and share the common goal of putting in hard work to receive a high-quality product. I am grateful to work in a state where a strong work ethic is valued and, in turn, elevates us all.

Any suggestions for a place you’ve been that us Minnesotans can travel to during spring break this year?
One of my travels included a trip to Australia and New Zealand. Despite the 22-hour flight, it was a memorable trip and one I would encourage others to consider. Not only are there many activities to try, like surfing, and scuba diving, but the scenery and landscape is diverse and unlike anything in Minnesota. Additionally, I appreciated seeing the diverse culture and meeting the locals. We met many kind, genuine and helpful people during the stay— some even invited us to their homes for a home-cooked meal. It was a remarkable trip and hope to make a return trip in the near future.

Tell us why you love your company!
While I’ve been in banking for 18 years, I’ve only been with my company for 10 months. What drew me to Dacotah Bank was the opportunity to build a business in this market from the ground up. The word “entrepreneurial” isn’t used very often in banking, but that’s what this opportunity has provided. While the bank has an 80 year history, the small but growing team we have in Minneapolis has been empowered by Bank Leadership to build this business leveraging our experience and networks. Additionally, the foundation of the bank, which revolves around family, community, and relationships, aligns with our approach in Minnesota.

What’s something super interesting about yourself?
More fun facts than interesting, but 1) I got to throw out the first pitch at a Twins game with my dad and 2) My picture was used in the Wall Street Journal for an article about the national real estate landscape in the U.S.

Who or what are you inspired by?
My family. My entire life I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by a somewhat big and extremely close family. Its always allowed me to have an outlet, a resource, competition, a kick in the pants, or a voice of reason.

What is one piece of leadership advice you’d be willing to share that you use?
Be authentic.

If you had to pick a karaoke song to sing, what would it be and why?
Well….I DID have to pick a karaoke song (we all did) and I went with Friends in Low Places by Garth Brooks. It’s a song that almost everyone knows, the lyrics are easy to understand, and after a few beverages it’s a song everyone will gladly sing along, which drowns out my voice.

What is your favorite part of your Leadership Minnesota experience so far OR what are you most excited for?
My favorite part of this experience has been meeting so many business leaders from across the state, representing a wide variety of companies and industries. Being a connector is one of the most enjoyable parts of my job and this program has provided an opportunity to expand my network in ways that I wouldn’t have thought. Honorable mention was the session at Sugar Lake Lodge, not just the tours in the Iron Range, but the activities that brought the group closer together. Including, but not limited to, Eric Levenhagen’s singing ability.

What is one thing you’ve learned from this program so far?
The importance of seeing everything that drives the Minnesota economy throughout the state. Working in Minneapolis, my bubble doesn’t always take me outside of the Twin Cities Metro area. It’s been a rewarding experience touring and meeting the executives of some of the largest employers outside of the Twin Cities and their contributions to the Minnesota economy. Its given me a greater appreciation for what the MN Chamber is all about and the importance of what they are doing.

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?
This isn’t the most creative answer, but I’m going with Summer. This aligns best with where I spend most of my time, golf courses, lakes, patios. While I can appreciate being able to experience all four seasons, not much compares to a Minnesota summer, particularly because of the way we have to endure the winter months. Another honorable mention, as a huge sports fan, complaining about Minnesota sports teams. It’s a strangely unifying topic amongst Minnesotans.

Any suggestions for a place you’ve been that us Minnesotans can travel to during spring break this year?
Anywhere that Sun Country flies. Another shout out to Eric Levenhagen.

To be the voice of business for the Marshall Area businesses is an honor!

What’s something super interesting about yourself?
After spending 15+ years living in the Metro, we moved back to my hometown of Marshall in 2014 to take care of my mother who was battling cancer. With her passing, we decided to stay in Marshall and raise our family there and now live in the same house that I grew up in.

Who or what are you inspired by?
My fellow chamber colleagues statewide. We always want each other to do well and aren’t afraid to trade ideas with each other to make each other stronger.

What is one piece of leadership advice you’d be willing to share that you use?
Leadership takes time. You can’t go straight to the top without learning the ropes first.

If you had to pick a karaoke song to sing, what would it be and why?
Sweet Caroline. It’s easy to sing with others.

What is your favorite part of your Leadership Minnesota experience so far OR what are you most excited for?
The Mall of America experience and the virtual ride over Hawaii.

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?
My Minnesota sports teams even through all of the heartache.

Any suggestions for a place you’ve been that us Minnesotans can travel to during spring break this year?
I was going to say Lanesboro as they are the bed & breakfast capital of the world but maybe not over spring break. Amazing summer experience though.

Tell us why you love your company!
As an employee-owner of Burns & McDonnell my values, voice, and vision are acknowledged and appreciated. We embrace an entrepreneurial spirit and approach each facet of our business with an owner’s mindset which has allowed us to make a significant positive impact for our colleagues, clients, and communities. I love Burns & McDonnell because I’m encouraged to be myself and I’m surrounded by talented, thoughtful people who love what they do.

What’s something super interesting about yourself?
I’m the proud father of two beautiful young children who are my heart and soul… they fill my cup and give me the drive, strength and determination to make our world a better place!

Who or what are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by the talent and tenacity of my fellow employee-owners. We leverage our expertise, experience, and education for good. We care about people, problem-solving, purpose-driven projects, and smart profits. Intentionality is at the core of everything we do individually and collectively.

What is one piece of leadership advice you’d be willing to share that you use?
A mentor told me in simple terms to be the best at what you do, where you are. He was referencing the Streetsweeper speech delivered by Martin Luther King Jr. The idea that one should sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry.

If you had to pick a karaoke song to sing, what would it be and why?
If I had to sing karaoke, I would pick the song Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins. If you’ve seen Top Gun, you know what I’m talking about.

What is your favorite part of your Leadership Minnesota experience so far OR what are you most excited for?
My favorite part of my Leadership Minnesota experience so far has been the people I’ve met and the relationships I’ve developed. We’re a group of charismatic, intelligent, humble, and driven professionals who collectively care about our state. We’re creators, builders, innovators, and change-makers. I’m excited to see our relationships evolve leading to business and community impact opportunities that will be positive for our state.

What is one thing you’ve learned from this program so far?
One thing I’ve learned from the program is having a diverse group of people in the room makes all the difference. We were each selected by our respective companies to join this cohort for varying reasons from technical expertise to industry experience. I’ve felt welcomed, valued, and engaged by the Chamber since day one. Many of our conversations have introduced me to new perspectives and insights that have influenced how I approach challenges and how I choose to overcome them.

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?
I’m an outdoor enthusiast. I love to hunt, fish, camp, and hike. Being surrounded by natural beauty, at peace, is a feeling you can’t experience anywhere but the great outdoors. I love outdoor family gatherings that celebrate traditions while enjoying nature’s greatest gifts with loved ones.

Any suggestions for a place you’ve been that us Minnesotans can travel to during spring break this year?
Lutsen in Cook County Minnesota. It’s known as a small town with big attractions. Since I love the outdoors, it’s the ideal setting for family vacations any time of the year! Whether you’re looking to hit the slopes, sample freshly tapped maple syrup, or get in a round of golf Lutsen delivers.

Whitney Houston I will always love you- because my name is Whitney, I was born in Houston, TX, and she is an absolute queen

What is your favorite part of your Leadership Minnesota experience so far OR what are you most excited for?
Its too hard to pick one thing. Honestly the people and the experiences are something I could’ve never imagined. I have learned so much about Minnesota’s economy and the passion and persistence that our business community devotes to their work.

“Build Me Up Buttercup” by The Foundations, it’s a wonderful guilty pleasure song

Redhead Mountain Bike Park in Chisholm as part of the taconite mine tour was amazing.

Any suggestions for a place you’ve been that us Minnesotans can travel to during spring break this year?
I’m not sure the weather would cooperate at spring break time but Bryce Canyon, UT is another planet.

I love Stearns Bank because as an organization, we know that when our communities and small businesses thrive, we all thrive. As an organization we focus on helping small businesses follow their passion, and support our communities in bigger ways each year. Stearns Bank values constant progress and thrives on innovation, which means we are always finding new ways to be impactful.

Being able to actively participate in community organizations, Chamber programs and DEI initiatives is important to me personally and professionally. Stearns Bank not only encourages us to make our passion part of our role, but takes these passions and makes it part of our strengths as an organization.

What’s something super interesting about yourself?
Traveling is my passion thanks to my mom. She started my obsession with traveling at 6 weeks old when we moved to Germany. She vowed that we always have a bigger view of the world and taught us that through exploring as a family. We’ve traveled extensively since that flight all those years ago, and I hope that we have many more adventures in our future. My most recent favorite destinations are Krakow, Poland and Costa Rica.

Who or what are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by people’s stories and especially those that have the ability to build others up. I’m a firm believer that our differences truly make us stronger, and that I have something to learn from every person around me. Most of all, my children are the ultimate inspiration for me. They teach me something new every day and I am completely driven to be part of the world in a way that will inspire them as they become adults and beyond.

What is one piece of leadership advice you’d be willing to share that you use?
Surround yourself with people different than you so you’re always learning and growing your skills, perspective and company initiatives. Encourage and support others to step outside their comfort zones, and even fail. Failing is learning! Try new things and never ask your team to do something you wouldn’t do or haven’t done.

If you had to pick a karaoke song to sing, what would it be and why?
I think at this point it’s more of a set list, and I would definitely form a group rather than be a solo artist. These songs would likely include audience participation which makes it that much more fun to completely embarrass yourself!

  • Wilson Phillips-Hold On
  • Garth Brooks-Rodeo
  • Joan Jett & the Blackhearts- I love Rock n Roll
  • And any other song the gang pulls me on stage for

What is your favorite part of your Leadership Minnesota experience so far OR what are you most excited for?
Leadership Minnesota has provided an incredibly intimate perspective of the depth of the Minnesota economy in a way I’ve never been exposed to. The businesses we have learned from during this program all have passion not only for their product and organization, but they also believe in Minnesota being successful. I’ve truly valued learning what each is doing to make us stronger as a state economically, environmentally and as a leader in the nation.

My favorite session so far was #2 when we spent time exploring mining, energy, forestry and the paper industry. The mine tour was once in a lifetime and I truly learned so much about the industry, environmental impact and initiatives, and the importance of an area that I knew little about. This session pushed me out of my comfort zone in many ways. From a fear of heights to stage fright, and a new appreciation for industries I had not been exposed to. All were successfully accomplished with the support of this cohort!

This program has allowed me to be part of a cohort that has built lifelong relationships, ongoing knowledge sharing and a deeper connection to business leaders throughout the state. Participating in Leadership Minnesota has truly allowed growth for me professionally, as a leader and personally-and I 10 out of 10 recommend taking the leap to be part of this program!

What is one thing you’ve learned from this program so far?

  • This program has opened my eyes even more as to how every decision made within our state government needs to be examined from a much broader perspective.
  • I’ve learned that Minnesota is on the leading edge of many industries and we need to come together more to support this growth.
  • The Minnesota Chamber is vital to helping our businesses thrive!

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?
My favorite thing about Minnesota is the summer and being in the lake.  As a transplant from Colorado I never imagined a lake could be warm or a floatie could be so peaceful.

Any suggestions for a place you’ve been that us Minnesotans can travel to during spring break this year?
The Gunflint Trail is a place that every Minnesotan should visit no matter the season!  Experiencing the north woods with limited cell service is something we should do more of. My family visits every year and we try a new small business for lodging each time. Take advantage of the lakes, biking, hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and things as simple as cooking a meal over the fire as a family.

If you want to escape the cold….head to Costa Rica! There is so much to do and the people are incredibly welcoming! And if you want to sit by the pool or beach, they have some of the best!  Direct flights can be found at https://www.suncountry.com/.

The People are fantastic and our Customers are awesome…and we make some pretty cool products as well!  It really stems from Taylor’s unique core purpose: “to create opportunity and security for our employees.” To achieve this, we must be innovative and execute flawlessly to support our Customer’s evolving needs and grow.  This creates such an amazing culture, that is foundational to Taylor’s success and makes it an exciting and fulfilling place to work!

What’s something super interesting about yourself?
Probably not unique for a lifetime Minnesotan… but I am an outdoors enthusiast. My wife, kids and I go camping/boating/biking as much as possible and have a quite a few entries in the Hiking Club.

Who or what are you inspired by?
The younger generation. The world is a pretty challenging place, with quite a few hurdles to overcome for the next generation, but watching my kids grow up and dive right in is very inspiring.

What is one piece of leadership advice you’d be willing to share that you use?
EVERYTHING you do as a Leader either helps build the culture you want or takes away from it…there is no neutral. From the moment you open your front door until you return home, you need to be leading by example. My Team and I use the phrase “Always on stage” to gently remind each other.

If you had to pick a karaoke song to sing, what would it be and why?
I’ve heard “Lose yourself” by Eminem is a crowd favorite…gotta give the people what they want!

What is your favorite part of your Leadership Minnesota experience so far OR what are you most excited for?
Getting to know all the people in our class and seeing so many different businesses. Each business was so gracious to have us…if I have to pick, visiting the reclaimed mine site was a real highpoint.

What is one thing you’ve learned from this program so far?
It has been interesting hearing about all of the pivots the businesses have taken throughout their history, the pandemic’s influence, supply chain, etc. Definitely highlights the need to recognize the changes threating your business and adapt to thrive!

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?
Truly having all four seasons.

Any suggestions for a place you’ve been that us Minnesotans can travel to during spring break this year?
Hard to beat a Florida trip after a long winter!

Electricity is arguably the best invention of all time, and I am proud to be a part of a Company (Xcel Energy) that not only produces it every day, but does so in a way that is increasingly carbon-free. It is also a privilege to play a role in a purpose-driven company like Xcel Energy and work with great people who have established a strong culture aligned to achieving our goal of being 100% carbon-free by 2040 in Minnesota.

What’s something super interesting about yourself?
I have worked for every professional sports team in the state, except for the Timberwolves and United FC.

Who or what are you inspired by?
Nonprofit leaders across Minnesota. I think we have an incredible state but also face a lot of challenges, and we have a lot of work to do to overcome them. Being able to work closely with leaders across various communities who are on the frontlines addressing key issues, and see the impact they make on people’s lives every day is truly inspiring.

What is one piece of leadership advice you’d be willing to share that you use?
I am a big fan of Dr. Brené Brown, and her approach to servant leadership. I think we bring our whole selves to work every day, and when you have a strong strategy and surround yourself with great people a good leader puts their team first, and empowers and cares for them both personally and professionally.

If you had to pick a karaoke song to sing, what would it be and why?
Goo Goo Dolls – Iris – It has been my favorite song since I was a kid, and it never gets old.

What is your favorite part of your Leadership Minnesota experience so far OR what are you most excited for?
This has been a great experience overall, but our time on the Iron Range in Northern Minnesota really stood out to me. It gave me a perspective on the area that I did not have before or was only able to read about in the news. This is a fascinating part of our state with an important history and interesting future.

What is one thing you’ve learned from this program so far?
Hard to pinpoint one thing, but understanding what drives our state economically has been eye opening. There are some amazing things happening across our state and the Minnesota Chamber has done a great job with this program.

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?
It is hard to name one thing, but I bleed purple. The Minnesota Vikings are probably my favorite thing.

Any suggestions for a place you’ve been that us Minnesotans can travel to during spring break this year?
I know it is a popular spot, but Lake Harriet in Minneapolis is my favorite place in Minnesota. Stop at Bread & Pickle on a beautiful day and enjoy the atmosphere.

HDR is a place where people can find their passions in so many different avenues, and be supported to have a drive where the potential is limitless. Fancy words to say people are valued.

What’s something super interesting about yourself?
Less interesting, more fact - most people call me Moose.

Who or what are you inspired by?
So many things. Big picture: I am in awe by what people achieve, collectively and as individuals, and the constant redefining of what can and cannot be done. Day to day: It’s a community that cares about each other, supports each other, and finds time to appreciate that life is a team sport.

What is one piece of leadership advice you’d be willing to share that you use?
The hard conversations are the ones you need to have, don’t put them off.

If you had to pick a karaoke song to sing, what would it be and why?
IF implies there was a choice 😉 Me and Bobby McGee because it feels both of an era and timeless in its sound and story. Plus no one expects anyone to sound like Janis Joplin, so zero pressure.

What is your favorite part of your Leadership Minnesota experience so far OR what are you most excited for?
Excited to continue learning about what comprises the state economy, why businesses exist, where they operate, how they continue to evolve, and who are the people behind them. Favorite part is 100% cliché, but the people.

What is one thing you’ve learned from this program so far?
That what I thought I knew about the interconnectedness of the state’s economy only scratches the surface.

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?
It is a place where people care. What that means individually and how it is expressed varies widely, but we have heart and work hard.

Any suggestions for a place you’ve been that us Minnesotans can travel to during spring break this year?
While I love the beach and sun, I am also a winter person and try to get as much in as possible in all terrains including the mountains. Colorado is one of my family's favorite spots and we continue explore places in and outside of Denver.

American Crystal Sugar Company is a cooperative owned by our shareholders/growers. Having been born and raised on a farm it is rewarding for me to be able to be a part of a company that gives right back to our grower owners, their family farms, and our local communities.

What’s something super interesting about yourself?
I’m a do it yourselfer, kind of a jack of all trades. With an engineering educational background and growing up on a farm, there aren’t to many things I won’t dabble in, from home improvement, to overhauling engines.

Who or what are you inspired by?
My parents and grandparents. We have so much at our fingertips now compared to what they had to go through to raise a family and have a career. They were the pioneers of this state, and they worked extremely hard to raise a family and be successful.

What is one piece of leadership advice you’d be willing to share that you use?
Never, never, never be afraid to go and walk the walk with your employees. Getting out there and working through a problem with your team shows that you are human and are there to help them succeed.

If you had to pick a karaoke song to sing, what would it be and why?
Probably something by Garth Brooks, if I had to.

What is your favorite part of your Leadership Minnesota experience so far OR what are you most excited for?
Just visiting all the different business in the different parts of our state. I would have never known that some of these existed without walking through their door and being able to hear their stories.

What is one thing you’ve learned from this program so far?
When I look at all the different businesses we have been in, we are all different in what we do, but we are all fighting similar battles to stay profitable, engage and attract employee, and to continue to improve and survive.

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?
The lakes! I am truly a lover of the water and being on or around the lakes is the best.

Any suggestions for a place you’ve been that us Minnesotans can travel to during spring break this year?
The Grand Rapids area.

Tell us why you love your company!
First – I love my company because I love the team I work with. We are a small team that truly cares about each other as people and that leads to a great and productive work environment. For the work itself - I get the opportunity every day to meet with growing companies and help them figure out a path to grow well. Getting to explore the wide variety of businesses in Minnesota in a group setting where that learning experience is shared with others from various disciplines. The experience and sharing of different market perspectives brings together real valuable insights.

What is one thing you’ve learned from this program so far?
The perception of a dying industry is not always reality.

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?
My family… Is that a fair answer?

Any suggestions for a place you’ve been that us Minnesotans can travel to during spring break this year?
I don’t travel over Spring Break, because by mid-March our weather is finally starting to turn a corner. So I always try to go somewhere warmer in late January/early February when it is truly cold and dark. I just love Mexican food, so anywhere in Mexico your heart desires is a good choice.

My favorite part of Leadership Minnesota has been the up north experience. From mining and logging to energy, the use of the earth’s raw materials is respected and planned for multi-generational sustainability in Minnesota.

What is one thing you’ve learned from this program so far?
The best businesses innovate based on what they see working outside their walls.

There are few legal firms that meaningfully support attorneys that are energetic, entrepreneurial, and curious about the law and business. Stinson has provided me the resources to service the firm's existing clients, and to gain new clients by creating new practice areas.

What’s something super interesting about yourself?
I grew up in Alabama and I am an unbearable Crimson Tide fan.

Who or what are you inspired by?
Roger Bannister was the first person to break the 4-minute mile barrier in 1954 during a time when people thought running that fast was dangerous. He was willing to risk everything to prove them wrong. It's inspiring to me as I push myself for professional growth.

What is one piece of leadership advice you’d be willing to share that you use?
Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.

If you had to pick a karaoke song to sing, what would it be and why?
Country Roads by John Denver; as someone who grew up in a small town, I understand what it means to return "home to a place where I belong."

What is your favorite part of your Leadership Minnesota experience so far OR what are you most excited for?
As someone who had never lived in Minnesota until 2010, I have appreciated seeing different parts of the state, and understanding the unique challenges that our business community faces.

Minnesota's economy is a connected community and it behooves all of us to work together.

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?
The people are wonderful and I've come to appreciate Minnesota nice.

Any suggestions for a place you’ve been that us Minnesotans can travel to during spring break this year?
Fort Morgan in Alabama. The beaches are beautiful with the gulf on one side and the bay on the other side. It's also quite a distance from Gulf Shores, so you can meaningfully disconnect.

Listen to all sides of an issue and appreciate helping others succeed.

All sessions have been great but I really enjoyed the October session in northern Minnesota touring facilities in the mining, paper/forestry, and power industry.

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?
I love all the things Minnesota has to offer in each of its corners but my absolute favorite thing to do in Minnesota is to spend time along the North Shore hiking or camping.

Any suggestions for a place you’ve been that us Minnesotans can travel to during spring break this year?
If times align with people’s spring break, the NCAA Frozen Four hockey championship will be held in St. Paul this April and is always a fun event to go watch and hopefully cheer on the Gophers 😊

I love working at Park State Bank, so much that I’ve been here for almost 20 years! I love that with community banking I can work in a challenging and rewarding field right in my hometown, all while working for a company that cares about and supports our communities.

What’s something super interesting about yourself?
I’m not sure if others find this interesting, but it certainly explains me in a nutshell! As a young child, I never really asked for “regular” toys - I wanted a REAL cash register, a bulk supply of register tape and other office supplies. This lasted most of my childhood and likely defined who I am today! I started in banking when I was 16, it seemed like the right fit and I’ve been in it ever since!

Who or what are you inspired by?
I’m truly inspired by the entrepreneurs and business owners that I work with each day. They are not afraid of tackling their ideas and dreams. It takes tremendous drive, determination and confidence!

What is one piece of leadership advice you’d be willing to share that you use?
“You have to have your heart in the business and the business in your heart.” - An Wang

If you had to pick a karaoke song to sing, what would it be and why?
Strawberry Wine by Deana Carter. This has been my go-to karaoke song to sing with friends for many years! It’s just one of those feel good songs you can sing to over a glass of wine.

What is your favorite part of your Leadership Minnesota experience so far OR what are you most excited for?
My favorite part of Leadership Minnesota program so far is being surrounded by such talented and successful business people, and creating lifelong friendships throughout this time together.

What is one thing you’ve learned from this program so far?
It’s truly fascinating how many products, services and businesses that are created and/or headquartered throughout the state that keep our economy ticking that I may not have known about if it wasn’t for this program.

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?
My favorite thing about (Northern) Minnesota is our four seasons. Not everyone gets to experience the four seasons so distinctly, with such beautiful scenery and ways to enjoy them.

Any suggestions for a place you’ve been that us Minnesotans can travel to during spring break this year?
Well… do you want to stay in Minnesota? I may be a little biased, but the North Shore is a very beautiful place to visit in all seasons! Spring time is incredibly beautiful on the north shore. Lake Superior is beautiful in the spring (though it may still have ice!). The state parks and hiking are phenomenal any time of year (Gooseberry and Split Rock are two of my favorites). We did reach record snowfall last year and still had snow in my yard in May. We’ll be heading to Cabo in late April to have a week away from spring/winter

I’m fortunate to work alongside an amazing group of people who help people find success by creating inspirational spaces. It’s such an honor to be part of a company who focuses on our core values of Teamwork, Partnership, Being Resourceful, Expertise, and Fun. I just love our team and all the great relationships we have built over the 30 years of being in business. No day is really the same and it keeps you motivated to continue to evolve and grow as a business.

What’s something super interesting about yourself?
I grew up on the Iron Range of Minnesota and I contribute my hard-working mindset to being raised there. I owe a lot to my parents and grandparents who taught us valuable life skills, lessons, and to help thy neighbor.  I’d give you the shirt off my back if you ever needed it. We could always use a little more of that in this world.

Who or what are you inspired by?
In general- just people that do-good things. Be kind to people, give back to the community, and work hard to inspire and lift others around you. That’s inspiring to me.

What is one piece of leadership advice you’d be willing to share that you use?
Always be humble and surround yourself with great people who share the same values and passions.

If you had to pick a karaoke song to sing, what would it be and why?
A Johnny Cash song because they are typically short, and the range of notes is very nominal!

What is your favorite part of your Leadership Minnesota experience so far OR what are you most excited for?
I’m always intrigued by business and to get a glimpse behind amazing Minnesota companies and how they operate is awesome. The great group of leaders we connect with during our time has been so great- Jenny/Erik and team do such an amazing job creating an experience you will never forget. I’m honored to be a future alumni of this program and the continued connections of the friendships I have made.

What is one thing you’ve learned from this program so far?
I think sometimes we can all get stuck in our own little vacuum of a world. It’s just been great to get out and see what our entire state has to offer and the businesses that help run this state. We have a lot to be proud of.

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?
I’m a huge outdoors person and our state offers so much to the outdoor enthusiasts - it’s hard to beat!

If you want to stay in Minnesota and you’re a ski enthusiast Lutsen or Giants Ridge are a great place to stay and ski! If you’re looking for somewhere warm, the Grand Caymans is a great place to relax just make sure you adventure over to Rum Point!

Hollstadt lives and breathes their core values every day. We are a relationship-focused organization and truly care about our clients and consultants. Our goal is to help them be successful, solve our clients’ challenges, and to help our consultants find fulfilling roles. It’s celebrated every time we help someone find a job!

What’s something super interesting about yourself?
Our family loves traveling. Our goal is to visit all 50 states with our kids, and we are almost half way to that goal! My husband and I have also been to 16 countries across 5 continents

Who or what are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by learning from great leaders. When you see a strong leader in action and get to observe their methods, it is very motivating to continue developing my own skills and make a positive impact on others.

What is one piece of leadership advice you’d be willing to share that you use?
Assume positive intent. Also, you can’t control the situation but you can control how you react to it. Leaders get put in challenging situations frequently, so being able to control your emotions and not take it as an attack is really important.

If you had to pick a karaoke song to sing, what would it be and why?
We sang Shania Twain at karaoke as a big group. A group setting is the only way you’d get me to sing in public!

What is your favorite part of your Leadership Minnesota experience so far OR what are you most excited for?
The session in Mankato was an eye opener for me. I realized I haven’t been to Mankato before, and it’s a great city that has a bustling culture. I’m definitely taking my family there for a visit sometime soon!

What is one thing you’ve learned from this program so far?
One trend I’ve observed so far from this program is the high level of innovation across Minnesota businesses. Regardless of the industry, businesses have transformed over the years and invest in innovation to be leaders in their industry.

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?
How friendly most people are and their willingness to help others, even if they are strangers. Minnesota Nice is real!

Any suggestions for a place you’ve been that us Minnesotans can travel to during spring break this year?
Morocco – it’s beautiful, the people are wonderful, and there is so much history! Definitely a place you can do in a week.

You are now in your second year of chairing Leadership Minnesota. What was something you learned that you can’t stop talking about? Any funny stories from your time in the program? What will you miss the most about chairing?
As a second-year chair, I have seen the Northern Minnesota economy, from mining and manufacturing, to forestry and tourism, up close many times, but it never gets old. The opportunity for economic thriving is at our fingertips up there and I hope we will seize it. Some of my favorite memories were created up there as well. It’s the place where the group always comes together in a new way – developing relationships that will change their individual futures, the futures of the companies, and ultimately, the future of Minnesota. And those relationships are forged at special places like Sugar Lake, where a karaoke song or two may have been sung…and only a little off key.

Throughout your time in the program, you have had the opportunity to really better understand the importance of the work of the Minnesota Chamber. Why should companies be a member?
The Minnesota Chamber is much more than an opportunity to connect with other Minnesota businesses. It really is the voice at the Capitol in St. Paul and Washington, articulating the importance of the free enterprise system in Minnesota and the ways in which Minnesota businesses bring economic independence and thriving to countless Minnesota workers and investors. The Chamber works in a non-partisan way to help legislators really understand the impact of policy and proposals. Without this voice, I fear we would often misstep as a state and jeopardize our bright future.

What is your favorite thing about Minnesota?
Uff da. There are so many things to love, but little beats waterskiing on Minnesota lakes and rivers!

Sun Country flies to so many warm destinations in the winter – any recommendations from your team on a great escape for us Minnesotans?
Any of our new destinations are always fun to try, but my personal favorite is the West Coast of Florida in the winter. From Tampa to Naples, you can’t go wrong!

Anything else you want to talk about?
For those of you on the fence about joining the Chamber or applying to one of the Leadership programs, I can tell you that for me and countless others, our membership and participation has paid incredible dividends. Connections have been made, critical jobs have been filled, and new lines of business have been opened. I have come to believe that it costs you more not to be a part of this, so join, apply, and help us lead Minnesota’s diverse economy into the bright future we have before us.
