It is amazing how, when you put an individual in front of a group of people, they often assume a level of expertise in fields beyond their competency. As an agency owner and marketing professional, I find it absurd that the audience thinks I am the guy who has all the definitive answers.

This week, the Chamber hosted the annual Economic Summit, where we discussed a number of issues impacting Minnesota’s economy. We had our friend Blois Olson, and our own Laura Bordelon join us to help us better understand the outcomes of the elections. This year, we also rolled out our 10th annual Business Benchmarks report, and we were pleased to have the new University of Minnesota President Rebecca Cunningham join us for her remarks and a brief conversation with me

The results of the 2024 elections made it clear that the economy matters to voters. This is good for manufacturers around the state who have been hit particularly hard with the anti-business policies coming out of single-party control over the last two years. $10 billion in new taxes, a paid leave program that raised payroll taxes, and extended producer responsibility requirements are just a few issues of consequence to manufacturers.

It’s been an interesting week since the elections wrapped up here in Minnesota. As we head into the legislative session on January 14, we’re facing a unique situation: Minnesota is now among the most equally divided states in the country.
