The SBA guarantees surety bonds for certain surety companies, which allows the companies to offer surety bonds to small businesses that might not meet the criteria for other sureties. |

Loan proceeds must be used for eligible business purposes, which may include equipment purchase, working capital and start-up costs, as well as real estate purchase, construction, renovation or tenant improvements of an eligible place of business. Loans may not be used for passive real estate. |

The primary goal of the program is to create new jobs, or retain existing jobs, in the region. Preference is given to businesses that will add full-time skilled or semi-skilled positions. |
