Election tomorrow; 2024 Economic Summit around the corner

By Doug Loon
President and CEO
Minnesota Chamber of Commerce

With only one day until Election Day, we’re urging Minnesotans to make their voices heard. If you haven’t voted yet, now’s the time to get informed and prepared for Tuesday, November 5. If Election Day itself isn’t convenient, you can still vote early. Visit mnchamber.com for our election toolkit, which includes resources to ensure you’re registered to vote, as well as polling place locations for efficient voting in your community.

Beyond the presidential election, there are critical races and issues on the ballot at the local level. In addition to the U.S. Senate race and all eight congressional seats, every State House seat is also up for election. These elections are especially significant in Minnesota, as we’ve seen the impact of single-party control over the past two years, resulting in laws and mandates that haven’t always been favorable to businesses. With just 14,173 votes making the difference between single-party control and balanced representation in the 2022 election cycle, each vote matters. For residents in the Lake Minnetonka area, there’s also a special election for a Minnesota Senate seat in the West Metro—another crucial race to be aware of.

As a voter, understanding what’s on your ballot is essential. Knowing the candidates and issues not only affects our state’s direction but also impacts local businesses, communities, and the broader economy.

After the dust settles on November 5, the Chamber will dive into understanding the election results and their implications for Minnesota. We’re excited to invite you to our 2024 Economic Summit on November 20, where we’ll break down these results and discuss how they will shape our state’s legislative landscape in 2025. The event will feature insights from political analyst Boyce Olson of Fluence Media and our own Laura Bordelon, Senior VP of Advocacy and Political Programs at the Chamber. Together, they’ll analyze the outcomes and provide guidance for Minnesota’s business community as we look ahead to the legislative session kicking off in January 2025.
