Back to FAQs

What is the difference between you and the local chamber of commerce/US Chamber of Commerce/trade association?
Although all chambers and trade associations can work with all levels of government, they tend to concentrate their efforts on specific levels or interest areas: Local chambers of commerce tend to focus on local issues, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce focuses on national issues at the federal government level and trade associations focus on industry specific topics at varying levels of government and the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce focuses on state issues.

The Minnesota Chamber of Commerce is not a governing body, chartering agent, or a regulatory agency for chambers of commerce, and we have no say in how chambers decide to run themselves. Any community can organize and support a chamber of commerce.

Back to FAQs

I'm a member of my local chamber of commerce. Does that make me a member of the U.S. Chamber?
No, the Minnesota Chamber is not a parent organization of other chambers, not all regional or local chambers are members of the Minnesota Chamber. Chambers of commerce are independently started and operated, and anyone can start a chamber at any time, any place.
