Plastic Bag & Stretch Wrap Recycling

The Twin-Cities based It's in the Bag program provides a recycling outlet for consumer and business plastic film material.

Consumers may deposit clean, dry, empty plastic bags in specially-designed It's in the Bag collection bins found at participating Twin Cities locations. Click here for a complete listing of participating locations.

Plastic bags collected through the It's in the Bag program are sorted in the Twin Cities by adults with developmental disabilities at Merrick Inc., a Minnesota Waste Wise member, and then sent to Winchester, VA-based manufacturer Trex Company. Trex processes the recycled bags to create plastic lumber used in backyard patios and decks.

The program is managed by Minnesota Waste Wise. Program founders include Kowalski's, Lunds/Byerly's, Merrick Inc., SUPERVALU and Trex Company. Current program sponsors are Minnesota Grocers Association and Target.
